Terms used in conformity assessment (ISO/IEC 17000)

Accreditation: Third party attestation by a national accreditation body, against harmonized standards, and where applicable, additional sectoral specifying provisions, conveying formal demonstration of a conformity assessment body's competence to carry out specific conformity assessment activities for any purpose.

Third party conformity assessment: Conformity assessment that is performed by a person or a body that is independent of the respective supplier and user interests. (First-party: a supplier) (Second party: the user)

Product certification system: Rules procedures and management for carrying out third party product conformity assessment.
